Domestic Violence is an epidemic the affects individuals in every community regardless of age, economic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion or nationality and has consequences that can last a lifetime.

Did you know?

• In the United States, an average of 20 people are physically abused by intimate partners every minute. This equates to more than 10 million abuse victims annually.
• 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been physically abused by an intimate partner.
• 1 in 5 women and 1 in 7 men have been severely physically abused by an intimate partner.
• 1 in 7 women and 1 in 18 men have been stalked. Stalking causes the target to fear she/he or someone close to her/him will be harmed or killed.
• On a typical day, domestic violence hotlines nationwide receive approximately 20,800 calls.
• The presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation increases the risk of homicide by 500%.
• Intimate partner violence accounts for 15% of all violent crime.
• Intimate partner violence is most common among women between the ages of 18-24.
• 19% of intimate partner violence involves a weapon.


The “Take A Stand, Stop The Hurt” walk unites communities, organizations, business’ and public officials with shared determination to stop domestic violence and raise awareness. This walk will honor the lives of 2 year old Chasmin Payne and 7 year old Kevin Bridges who were both murdered as a result of domestic violence in 2007.

Proceeds obtained through the walk will be donated to the Home Of Hope Children’s Shelter to help continue their efforts.

The “Home Of Hope” at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter is a residential care facility which provides services for homeless children from 0-17 years of age along with their young mothers. They also provide care and services for homeless girls aging out of the foster care system at 18 years of age. They provide customized “Life Plans” that are designed around the needs of the children, while helping the moms create a plan of action to get back on their feet. Their goal is not simply to be a place of refuge, they are the “NEXT STEP” towards independence. They take their guests from homeless, to hopeful, to a home of their own. www.homeofhopegcs.org


2 year old Chasmin Payne and 7 year old Kevin Bridges were both victims of a murder suicide as a result of a domestic violence dispute in 2007.   The annual “Take A Stand, Stop The Hurt” Walk was created in their honor to raise awareness about Domestic Violence and financially support those affected.
